Description

The doors of the Tecla Sala library were opened to the public for the first time on 17 December 2000, in the building of the old Tecla Sala yarn factory. It is interesting for the unique building it is housed in as well as for its collection:

The Tecla Sala Central Library is the public library with the largest specialised collection of current and old comics in Spain. The donation of the private collection of Pascual Giner has been maintained for years with numerous contributions from around the province, exceeding 30,000 copies.

Furthermore, the Blues Collection was created in 2006, in collaboration with the Barcelona Blues Society. It has been named a blues library by the European Blues Union due to its diverse activity with concerts, book presentations, exhibitions, etc. promoting black music, its roots, and the social origins of blues music. Currently, its Blues Collection exceeds 6,000 copies.

In addition, the spirit of a public library is maintained with a clear vocation to promote reading in the immediate environment: the city of L’Hospitalet. It recognises creative talent and promotes local authors by holding a biannual meeting during the Book Festival on St George’s Day. The library also maintains a unique collection of books on the history of the city published over the years, both about the city and its people.

The Tecla Sala library thus becomes a welcoming and unique space for visitors and tourists who want to enjoy popular culture and get to know the city a little better through its books.
